My Story
My Roots
My journey to becoming a Mental Performance Consultant is rooted in the lessons of my upbringing. Growing up on a busy farm in a small town, I learned early on how to navigate adversity, take initiative, and find practical solutions to everyday challenges. For over a decade, I was deeply involved in 4-H, an experience that instilled in me a strong sense of leadership and responsibility. Through hard work and support, I had the privilege of competing at the national level at the TD Canadian 4-H Dairy Classic.
The Spark for Sport Psychology
Sports have always been a central pillar of my life, beginning with games of catch with my Poppa. This early introduction blossomed into a multi-sport athletic journey, with a primary focus on competitive softball and curling. Playing on a competitive junior curling team alongside my twin sister taught me the invaluable lessons of teamwork, strategic planning, and self-reflection. It was also during my competitive athletic career that I first worked with a Sport Psychologist. This pivotal experience sparked my fascination with the mental side of performance, ultimately inspiring me to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Sport Psychology at Laurentian University.
Varsity Athletics and Navigating Change
During my undergraduate studies, I earned a spot on the varsity women’s curling team. This transition brought significant changes—a new city, a new coach, new teammates, and the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Navigating this environment required intentional effort. I learned firsthand the importance of emotional regulation, pressure management, and balancing rigorous academic and athletic demands. By focusing on actionable goals, seeking constructive feedback, and fostering team reflection, I grew both personally and athletically. Our collective efforts culminated in silver and gold medals at the OUA championships and a bronze at the U SPORTS national curling competition.
Building the Practice
Driven by a desire to share these mental performance strategies with others, I completed my Master of Human Kinetics (MHK) with a specialization in Mental Performance Consulting at the University of Ottawa. This intensive program allowed me to apply my skills across a diverse range of environments, working with varsity volleyball and rugby teams, La Relève Ringette Canada, Trillium Curling Camp, elite hockey players, first responders, and grassroots athletes. Today, these experiences fuel the passion behind my private practice. My mission is to empower individuals and teams to unlock their potential, deepen their self-awareness, and build a robust toolbox of mental skills that foster success in sport, academics, careers, and life.
What Does Deliberate Mean?
Deliberate by Deklein is grounded in one central value: intentionality.
Being deliberate means actively choosing how you show up, rather than leaving your performance, mindset, or growth to chance. It requires developing the self-awareness to understand your thoughts, habits, and responses, and learning how to align them with both your personal values and your performance goals.
Through purposeful practice and reflection, this approach emphasizes growth not just as a performer, but as a whole person. These principles shape every aspect of my mental performance consulting and the supportive environments I strive to create.
My focus is on more than just outcomes. I want to equip you with the skills to navigate pressure, stay grounded in your values, effectively reset and recover, and respond with clarity in high-stakes settings. True, sustainable performance comes from deeply understanding yourself and acting with purpose when it matters most.
A key part of this vision is creating opportunities for connection and shared learning, because growth does not happen in isolation. By bringing athletes and performers together—across different sports and competitive levels—Deliberate by Deklein fosters a community where individuals learn not only through expert guidance but through each other’s unique experiences and perspectives.
Ultimately, this work extends far beyond the field of play. Deliberate by Deklein empowers individuals to move through sport, school, and life with greater clarity, ownership, and purpose.
Because growth doesn’t happen by accident.
It happens deliberately.
